Canada may pay for Out-Of-Country Lap Band Surgery due to 3-10 year waiting period

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 27, 2014

leafWe have received reports recently from many of our Canadian patients that the Government may be willing to reimburse the cost of Lap Band Surgery for those patients on a 3 to 4 year waiting list in Canada.  Often for Canadian patients seeking Lap Band Surgery, the wait can be even longer (Please See Estimated Waiting Time by Province).  In Alberta, the average waiting period is 7 to 10 years.

To find out if your Lap Band Surgery procedure might be considered for reimbursement, please contact the “Out-of-Country Health Services Committee”.  You may download and fill out their application.  The form is in Adobe PDF format.

The Out-of-Country Health Services Committee (OOCHSC) considers applications for funding of insured medical, oral surgical and/or hospital services.

If the OOCHSC denies an application for funding of insured medical, oral surgical and hospital services received outside of Canada, an appeal can be made to the Out-of-Country Health Services Appeal Panel within 60 days of receiving the OOCHSC decision. The appeal panel cannot hear appeals for claims denied through the AHCIP. If you have questions regarding your out-of-country claim, please contact the Out-of-Country Health Services Appeal Panel at 780-422-1954.
