“This experience has been successful in providing a new image of myself both outwardly, and the more important inward aspect of self-esteem, along with renewed energy, attitude, and a chance for longer lasting health.”

My sister and I embarked on our Lap-Band experience in Sept 2004, but actually it started several months prior when my sister contacted me about her interest in Lap-Band as a way to lose and manage weight. I had not heard of Lap-Band at that time but was familiar with gastric bypass surgery and some of it’s pro’s and con’s. My sister encouraged me to research and consider this somewhat “new” approach to weight management for myself and to consider this procedure as a joint “sisterly” journey.

I began the task of joining support groups for bandsters and those considering the procedure. I researched the medical information around the procedure, and got acquainted with some folks that had surgery and offered support and education from their perspectives. Since my sister and I were in relatively good health and somewhat familiar with the medical system, we went ahead and scheduled our procedure together with Dr Kuri. Our experience with Lap-Band and our relationship with Dr Kuri and his team has been rewarding and certainly life changing.

We were treated with respect and compassion through our initial inquiries, meeting Dr Kuri and his team, the office and hospital staff, and to other bandster that have been educators, commiserates, and friends far beyond the surgery itself.

This experience has been successful in providing a new image of myself both outwardly, size 24 to size 14 and continuing, and the more important inward aspect of self-esteem, along with renewed energy, attitude, and a chance for longer lasting health. It has not always been easy and at times has required a renewed commitment to good band behavior, exercise, and letting go of old habits that led to weight gain and frustration.

For my sister, Linda, and myself, we are proud to share our experience with others that are weighing options for weight loss and management and are grateful members of Dr Kuri’s family of bandsters.
