Lap Band Surgery Begins with Laparoscopic Incision
The Lap-Band System is placed laparoscopically under general anesthesia. After a laparoscopic surgery, most people feel much less pain than with the open
method of surgery. Patients also recover faster and are able to resume normal activities sooner. The weight loss procedure is routine and only takes approximately 25
minutes.
To begin, a few small incisions are made in the abdominal wall for the insertion of long, thin surgical instruments including a narrow camera. This camera
allows the surgeons to view the operative site on video monitors.
The band is placed around the upper part of the stomach to form a ring. It is then locked and secured around the stomach with minimal stitching. To
complete the procedure, Dr. Kuri uses absorbable under-the-skin sutures to close the incisions.
