POST SURGERY AFTERCARE
After leaving the hospital, patients may still experience some discomfort from the stitches and swelling around the incision areas. Patients will be given
a prescription pain medication prior to their discharge to be taken as needed.
Some patients experience shoulder pain which is a result of the gas used
during the procedure. An over-the-counter remedy can be taken, such as "Gas-X", to relieve the discomfort.
Most newly banded patients can return to work or resume normal activities within 3-7 days after surgery. It is important to get up and move around, to take
short walks, and get adequate rest while your body is still recovering from the effects of surgery.
It is more important in the first few weeks to let your stomach adjust to the Lap-Band System, than it is to lose weight. Dr. Kuri provides an extensive
post op instruction manual that includes wound care, pain control, and diet instructions customized for your recovery.
