“Without the band I would have fallen off the wagon and probably gained all my weight back plus some, but since I had that “tool”, I had hope.”

I was banded on March 03, 2006. My weight was 225, the highest I had ever been. I had struggled with my weight for over 20 years. I was so terrified that I would just keep gaining and gaining.  If I had not had the LAP-BAND, I am sure I would be close to 300 pounds by now.

photo(3)When I heard about the procedure I was really excited, but then really frustrated because it was so expensive over here. That is when I found Dr. Kuri on the internet. I thank God everyday for finding this wonderful man. He truly cares about his patients. The hospital is like a five star hotel and the care is just indescribable.

My journey has not been an easy journey, the weight didn’t just fall off, it has taken me almost 2 years to reach my goal, which I changed from 150 to 135…because when I was 225 I didn’t think it would be achievable to get to 135. Well as of today, I am 135 pounds. Woo hoo! * Results may vary.

Dr. Kuri describes the band as a tool and I totally agree with him, if I just thought that it was going to do the job for me then I would not have succeeded as I have. Do not get me wrong, I did not live in the gym but I did go at least 3-4 times a week 20 – 30 minutes a day. Some months I would not lose a pound, in fact I think I went about 4 months without losing anything. Without the band I would have fallen off the wagon and probably gained all my weight back plus some, but since I had that “tool”, I had hope. My biggest fear is for anything to happen to my band, it has become my lifeline.

Update | February 2014
Life can’t get any better! I am amazed at what I now do in my life I would have never done before my band. I play golf, kayak, hike…all things that pushing 300 lbs, simply were not possible. I also am amazed at how much more energy I have. My job puts me in daily contact with rooms full of teenagers, they keep me on the run all day. I used to come home, put my aching feet up and rub my sore knees…no more! I can go all day long with my students and still come home and work in the yard and take a daily walk with my dog who things every thing must be done at warp speed.  I do monitor what I eat, and I weigh myself on a twice weekly basis to keep myself mindful of where I am.  I love buying new clothes…I used to be lucky to own 3 pair of jeans, not at any more…I probably own 15 pair now…with heel to go with many of them.  I love having gone from a size 24 to holding steady at a 4 for the past 3 1/2 years. When my son got married I was proud to dress up and be part of his wonderful day, that made everything worth while.  This morning when I weighed myself I was 131 lbs…I make every effort to stay under 135…its a great weight for me and my clothes fit well there.  Thanks again to all of you…my health has change dramatically thanks for my surgery.  May God Bless You All.
