A Cleveland solider returns from Iraq and finds his wife is a changed woman - changed for the better, that is.
Penny Garrett decided since her husband would be gone for seven months she'd make a change in her life that required some surgery and a lot of patience. She brought her twin boys and daughter along for the big surprise that truly shows the "weight" is over.
U.S. Army Sergeant Tony Garrett is part of the 252ndMilitary Police Company out of Cleveland. He's been in Alkut, Iraq since the summer and is now home on a 15-day leave.
As he walked from the passenger boarding area of the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport he greeted his wife and said "you look awesome, I can't get over it!"
Mrs. Garrett looks and feels so much different now compared to last July when her husband went overseas. She showed us a photo of her before her husband left and it shows a much heavier person. During her husband's absence she had lap band surgery and lost more than 80 pounds.
"I was in a size 32 woman and I'm now an 18 woman, I still have a good ways to go and I want to lose about 100 pounds," Penny Garrett said.
"I can only think of one word and that's wow," Sgt. Garrett said. "She's always been beautiful, I always thought she was just a beautiful woman and it's just, wow, she looks great."
The good news gets even better. The Garrett's have twin boys, Justin and Wyatt, who are celebrating their second birthday today. "They've all changed so much it's not even funny, in just six months, I can't get over it," Sgt. Garrett said.
Sgt. Garrett has a lot of catching up to do with his kids and wife the next couple weeks. Remember, she's almost half the woman she was, size-wise, before she had the surgery.
"It's unbelievable, that was the best decision I made in my life," Penny Garrett said.
Mrs. Garrett isn't finished with her quest to loose weight. After her husband returns to Iraq in two weeks he'll be gone for another four months, and during that time she plans to lose another 80-100 pounds.
