Safety is our number one concern for our patients. We would like to take this opportunity to discuss how we address your personal safety when you travel to Tijuana for Gastric Sleeve Surgery with Dr Kuri. If you have specific traveling challenges or concerns, please reach out to us to see if we can help. Our goal is for you to have a safe, secure, and positive surgery experience.

We have a reputation of treating our patients like family. Patients often choose Dr Kuri because of his warm bedside manner. All of our staff speak English and have been with Dr Kuri for 15+ years or longer.  Your patient facilitator JoAnn Jackson, RN, BSN has personally undergone both Lap Band Surgery and Gastric Sleeve Surgery with Dr Kuri.  She has worked for Dr Kuri for many years and can help answer your questions and advise you as to every step of the process.

If you are flying to San Diego, our staff will meet you curbside at the baggage claim area of your airline.  If you intend to drive your own vehicle, we recommend that you park on the USA side of the border at the border station parking lot.  Our driver will meet you there and drive you across the border to the office for all of your pre-operative testing.

Patients are always accompanied by a member of our staff during any travel while in Mexico. We will pick you up from either the San Diego airport or from Border Parking on the USA side and transport you to the office, where you will be greeted by our receptionists Angela and Alicia and complete the payment detail for your surgery.
Next, you will have your blood drawn. You then will be given the opportunity to go to lunch at a local restaurant accompanied by a member of our staff.  After lunch we will transport you a short distance 10 minutes away to Hospital Blue Medical Tower and help you get checked in and situated for your first nights stay. That evening Dr. Kuri will be checking in on you and answering any questions you may have. The following day will be the day of your surgery.

The morning of your surgery your nurse will help prepare you for surgery.  Once your surgery is finished, you will spend the next two nights of your recovery at Hospital Blue Medical Tower.  We encourage patients to bring a guest with them, and there is a big chair in each patient room that makes into a twin size bed. On the third day following surgery we will transport you and your guest to Rio Suites for the remainder of your stay.  Dr Kuri provides accommodations at Rio Suites for one night following surgery.

After your night at Rio Suites you will be ready to travel home. Our staff will coordinate with you and meet you at your room at Rio Suites to drive you to the airport or back across the border.  Our staff will be in contact with you until you arrive safely back home.

Once home, we encourage patients to take advantage of our aftercare resources and join our private patient support group on Facebook

If you wish to have even more detailed information about surgery with Dr Kuri, we invite you to visit our “Patient Experience” section of our website.  We also encourage prospective patients to talk to our patient facilitator JoAnn Jackson, RN, BSN.  If you have any other questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us by phone, email, our website, or your preferred social media platform.
