A grieving mother spiraled to nearly 400 lbs after losing her daughter from a tragic heart attack at the young age of 21.  Amanda S, 49, began eating giant portions of food while suffering from post traumatic stress disorder following the death of her daughter Paris, from a heart attack.   Her daughter was only 21 years of age, so the death was unexpected and completely devastated Amanda and their family.

She explained: “After losing my daughter I no longer cared about myself and I started eating gigantic portions of food.  In 18 months, she gained 84 lbs.  As her weight increased, she began to have severe asthma attacks.  Up to 40 attacks per day.  These attacks were so bad she had difficulty walking from her bedroom to the bathroom without having an asthma attack. They eventually made Amanda housebound.  She knew that if her health continued to decline, she would not live more than a couple of years.

Amanda and her husband had been saving money to purchase a new home for their family and surviving daughter, Savannah.  However, they both agreed the money would be better spent on Gastric Sleeve Surgery to help try and save Amanda’s life.  A new home would be pointless if she wasn’t alive to enjoy it with her family, and she knew it was absolutely that serious.

Less than a year following surgery, Amanda has lost nearly half her body weight – and continues to lose weight.  “The surgery allowed me to see a light at the end of the tunnel.”  “My family are now super proud of me and they know its been a long battle.  I believe my daughter Paris would have been proud of me as well.  She had been studying at university to become a human rights lawyer at the time of her death. I miss her so much every single day, I wish she was here to see how much I have achieved.”
